The whole "Will mankind survive and is it worthy of survival in any case?" question is distinctly moot these days, since the actuality of climate change has passed it beyond the realms of science fiction. In my view it boils down to a simple statement: "The only way to survive is to change; the only way to be worthy of surviving is to change."

Or you can take the view that mankind is just a skin disease on a ball of dirt and its time is up anyway. I admit I used to think that way and it made for a simple but satisfying worldview, but as I look over at my lovely daughter playing on the sofa I just can't see her as one more division of the human virus, but rather as a vital individual who deserves to enjoy a rich lif.
