| I just bought a new PC Long story....but I will keep you posted...
I have been long thinking about upgrading from Win 98 to XP.
This week I went to Ebuyer and bought an upgrade to XP.......then I discovered that my PCs specs would not be compatible.
So after asking some questions, found out I could get a barebones PC for £150, with specs that out do the one I bought several years ago for (cringe) a couple of thousand.
So my cheap upgrade has just cost me just over £200.
The Xp upgrade will be here anytime now, the new PC 2nd March.....Im getting excited.

| In my experience, old doesn't always go into new. It's a little, but expensive, thing called compatability.
Good luck! |

| OK OK.....nobody told me you need to get a hard drive with a barebones kit.
I have been getting instructions how to put it all together.....but have been missing the main link in the chain.
Oh well we live and learn.

| Update on the New PC saga
I hinted in my last post that all was not 100% going well with my latest adventure into the world of hi tec.
My barebones machine arrived but because I am such an impetuous sort of bloke (not) I failed to look at what it comprised.
So as I tried to put it all together...just moving my CD and CD writer from the old machine (this one) into the brand spanking new one.
I lacked a hard drive.........so undaunted I got back on line and ....after asking advice ..........purchased one.
It arrived and I set to plug the dangled mass of wires within the new PC into the bright spanking new Hard drive.
Ah oh !
My new Motherboard's specs were for a SATA Hard drive, my newly bought Hard drive is ATA....I can get an adaptor to fit it in....but it seems like a bit of a cheat.
So up to date I have a brand new PC without a hard drive and a brand new copy of windows XP and a good, but useless Hard drive, because it is incompatible with the new PC.
I have now the option of buying another hard drive and putting the other one into this PC or buying the adaptor to fit the ATA hard drive into the SATA motherboard.
I hope you followed that ?
Further updates will follow..........

| No i didn't follow really...but if the adaptor does the job, doesn't detract from performance and is cheaper it is a bit of a no brainer, as they say.
Either that or go back from where you made the silly purchase and claim ignorance and have a polite word about exchanging hard drives.
With stuff like that they should ask you what system you are using and advise you of its compatibleness. imho |
