Thumbs up Planet Earth

Has anyone else been watching this? As a TV person I have a a huge amount of professional respect for the filmmakers anyway, but this has been one of the most exceptional wildlife programmes I've ever seen.

I'd love to know how much it cost to make, looking at all the effort and equipment that's gone into it, it must have cost a fortune. It's been fascinating to watch though, my favourite part so far has to be the African Wolves chasing a gazelle through the plains.

The one on tonight was once again amazing, I have a definite urge to go scuba diving in the underground caves in Brazil now.

It is an amazing program.....I believe its a collaboration between several TV companies.
The end part that explains that the pretty pictures that amaze you took a team of brave men a long time and under extreme conditions to get put it into context for me.
The US caves took 2 years to obtain permission to film, and they stayed below ground for ten days.....awsome....and I dont use that word without fully meaning it....truely awsome.

I tried to imagine what it would be like spending ten days underground with no daylight, in claustrophobic conditions. I'd like to think I could handle it, but it's really one of those things you can't guess at.

One thing that really caught my attention as well, was the range of creatures that were completely local to one cave. I found it astonishing that their ancestors had eyes, but as they had no use for them down there, they'd devolved so to speak, and lost them again.

My nightmare would have been knee deep in Bat dung and cockroaches.
Watching the guy taping up any access points to stop the little blighters getting into his clothes made me squirm.....my heroes...and I repeat an awsome program.

I've 16,000 papers written by eminent people in their chosen field, and that's only in psychology. And I'm afraid being the geek I am most of the information stays in there for my retrieval. Then its just a case of finding it again.

You wouldn't believe the amount of information I have access to. If you wanted the same access it'd cost you thousands a year.
That's why I didn't put a link to where I'd got that particular piece of information from, it wouldn't let you get to see it.

?? I must have missed something there... Don't understand Sid's post.

Planet earth really is a fascinating program, well filmed and all.
I generally love nature programs but it is one of the best... I liked Blue Planet too.
