| Gigs I thought i would start one on gigs because they were mentioned in Caspers Theatre thread. I have seen some class ones and mentioning the Chilli Peppers gig got some great memories going through my head, so i thought i would bring some more up.
I think my first gig was Joan Armatrading at the Manchester Apollo Theatre back in something like 1986-7 i think. Three of us payed £13 for our tickets but about 5-8 mates turned up and got in for a fiver the jammy gits.
It was rather an uneventful day but an absolutely superb gig.
I can't remember whether Sid was there or not? I also can't remember whether we went onto Band On The Wall in Manchester town center. Reggae night every Friday night there holds some weird and wonderful memories.......were you there Sid or were you off playing Rambo?
I will leave it there and add some more later.
I was talking to a mate about gigs Monday night while on the piss, naughty me, and the question came up: what was my favourite gig? i couldn't then and am struggling now to find an answer, as all the gigs i've been to have been bands i've known and liked. |

| NO suffer......
I was going to enthrall you with a couple I have been to......not very modern but I enjoyed em.
My first at a pals request was Rod Stewart at Wembly Stadium.....in the middle of the hallowed turf in a fog of alcohol....he buggered off towards the front and I never saw him until right at the end.....I linked up with a couple of females.....everybody was sharing there smuggled in drinks and it was just like a street party for adults.Seem to remember it drizzled but I dont think we noticed....just a fine mist of rain to keep us cool."I dont want to talk about it" still makes the hairs stand up on the back of my kneck....silly ole bugger.

It's got to be the Exploited at the Acadamy in Manchester.
I was that far gone I got on stage when the God who is Wattie started singing Sex and Violence.
I got kicked off stage pretty quick but at least we shared that mike for a short while.
Stiff Little Fingers backed by the UK Subs at the International was another great night.
They even played Cranked up Really High by Slaughter and the Dogs before the bands came on.
Memories!! |

| I was also "taken" to see Pink Floyd at Earls Court....by my younger brother....who was puffing all the way.
He was trying to get me into their music because he thought they were the best thing ever.......as the countdown came to an end..... the stadium lights began to dim.....the audience hushed as the music announced the real show was about to begin....music booming too loud.....lights and movement anticipation......then confusion as the house lights came back and the music stopped.
To my groups right ....a bank of seats had tumbled into a heap.....everybody turned.....amazing effect........then reality dawned as they announced the concert would be re arranged for another time.....I had dragged my daughter out of the auditorium by then....and stood watching from a safe distance as the people began to leave that part of the seating area......ambulances arrived and we all began to disperse deflated.........We read the next day no one was badly hurt....my immediate fear had been that the seats would tumble domino like around the arena.
The rearranged gig was very good.....considering I had never really listened to their music and it was all pretty new to me......although of course some are classics and I didn't even know I knew them......Atmospheric moody and some mind blowing sounds.

| Hey ahwell how was your gig?
This may take me a while so bare with me.
The cat knocked a pile of paperwork over this morning, i think he did it because it was on his speaker/perch, and this ticket fell out.......18th Feb 1995. It is one i almost forgot about, hehe, oh fond memories.....see what you think.
I'll set the scene: sat in a little bar called The Albatross, in Katwijk, Holland. Sat at the bar well pissed with my earphones in, a lad of about22 tapped me on the shoulder and asked what i was listening to. I told him it was Oasis and we started chatting and playing pool. They mentioned that they were on their way to a gig, where and what i enquired? yada yada yada I'll have a bit of that i replied, one cloggy said "it is heavy" i replied, with a drunken develish glint in my eye, is it now........ten minutes walk and we are there. 20 guilders and in we go.
The venue was called Scum, the band were called Madball, kinda thrash heavy metal and the gig was in full swing, dance floor quite hectic. I got a pint and stood with these two guys taking in the thrash of it and thought i'd have a dance.........now a six foot skin head, heavily drunk doing the pogo across the dance floor, knocking a couple of people over, and myself a couple of times......well you could imagine. I suppose the bouncers should have threw me out then, because of what happened next i wish they would've.
After my little dance i found these two guys and my pint, understandably they weren't to happy to see me return. Whilst having a swig of my pint i heard a voice behind me say Englse cloadsack, which in translation means English ballbag, regardless of spelling i knew what he meant. I turned round and gestured, who me, this young fellow nodded so i butted him full in the face.....considering i had upset about a hundred sweaties that wasn't a very clever thing to do.......there were that many trying to hit me none of them could....anyway, i got hammered in the hall, when the bouncers managed to drag me out of the hall i got hammered at the door, when the bouncers finally got me out of the door i was trotting down the road with two fingers on both hands held high when one of the baying crowd broke loose. I heard running footsteps behind me, i let them get close and ducked, but ducked too late and he, i think it was a he, grabbed my collar and bowled me over.......joined by another attacker they began kicking and stamping, i remember having both arms across my face laughing as one tried to stamp on my head........after realising i was going the wrong way from town i renavigated my way back to The Albatross, had a few more beers then went home.
The next day to my amazement all i had was a footprint running across my forehead, i kid you not.
I thought it was a great night, but then i would, eh! |

| It sounds like a great night. One of those spur of the moment mad adventures.
That reminds me of one of mine.
I was in a bar in Germany happily getting drunk. I noticed a lad I didn't particularly like leaning against a wall virtually unconscious. I thought it would be funny to wake him up with a shove.
Down he goes with a heavy thud of his head on the floor.
His friends were a little upset by it so about three or four attacked me. On seeing me getting a good kicking by a gang some of my buddies decided to give me a hand, about eight of them.
It ended up with a mass brawl between the two sides. Just to add to the mayhem some Germans who must have got hurt in the chaos started fighting with anyone British.
A large mob of bouncers appeared, probably from all the bars in the area, so we decided to make our escape. The trouble with that was that there was loads outside, making their way inside to stop the fight. They gave us a good kicking as well as the ones we'd already had. Being a little riled by this time I decided I'd get my revenge.
After the bouncers had gone in to sort out the mess I thought it'd be a good idea to put all the windows through. I'd put a few through when out comes the mob who'd only just gone in.
I didn't stop long. I made off as best I could.
I got as far as a group of Germans who wanted to stop me. I tried to get away as best I could. I think I'd begun to persuade them to let me go when up comes a German policeman about the size of a barn door pointing a gun that looked the size of a small cannon at my head and the words STOP NOW.
I did.
Off to hospital accompanied by some Germans who kept saying things like; "You goddam crazy man."
By this point I'd sobered up somewhat and realised I wasn't in the best shape of my life.
Well, two weeks in hospital, then another few in jail and I was as good as new!
Only trouble I had now was the bad reputation I'd brought with me when I got transferred; but that's another story. |
