  1. I guess different people have different views, often depending on their own heritage and predilictions, and the intent of the word user.

    Until now it seemed OK to many people for gays to call themselves queers, Blacks to call themselves niggers, people from the Indian subcontinent to call themselves Pakis, and so on.

    Only one of those would apply to me and, while I accept some people feel they're reclaiming and taking the sting out of the word, I've never felt comfortable hearing it or using it. Even its use for comedy or entertainment seems questionable.

    So should users be prosecuted? In my view it depends on the intent. But therein lies the difficulty. Where should the burden of proof lie: on the user or the prosecutor? Meanwhile, I guess people should have a reasonable right to offend, and the rest of us should have a reasonable right to be offended...
