Default GUY FAWKES night now renamed as bengali night in london

Its happening again. I cannot wait for streets, statues and buildings to be removed or renamed ........like they did in good old south africa..to erase the memory of apartheid (or so they say...but dont demolish the buildings/cities as they surely must remind them of apartheid & colonial rule ) Is this being two faced or is there a plan

a touch mental, even saddam's boyfriend is unhappy about it

I have mentioned elsewhere that the street names around Tower Hamlets are in two languages.
It is a strange development......if it is a one off just for this year....and next year back to Guy Fawkes ?
I do tend to look at things differently.....should we be worried about the imported satanic Halloween ?
Or the St Patricks day celebrations in so many very English towns ?

Worth thinking about or not ?

I'm all for celebrating other customs and events, just not forcing people to change their traditions for the sake of political correctness, I find their denial that the change was done for any other reason to be contemptible. We owe it to ourselves to keep our own traditions and history alive, as they are fond of saying in Australia 'Lest we forget'. No one else is going to keep our traditions alive.

I don't understand why we celebrate St. Patrick's more then St. George's day either. But just to be anal, unless I'm mistaken Halloween is very much a British tradition, which has just been popularised elsewhere.

Just to reiterate, I'm all for celebrations of important events that mean something to our immigrant population. But not at the expense of our own rich history.

Couldn't agree more.
There does seem to be an embarrasment associated with our history.
Some of the embarrassment is understandable.
We should never forget our strengths ....and they are many.
Strange to say...... the event in question......if it were a one off....and had some reference to the reason fireworks were being displayed in England on this day.....would probably appease our misgivings, about it displaceing our tradition.

That is one of our strengths...tolerance.
Tolerance is a strength.....and a weakness when over used.
