Default phobias

I've just been fartin about on the net and came across a list of phobias some funny some not so funny.I'm a sufferer of arachnophobia to a certain extent and was wondering if anybody else would like to divulge their fears, phobias call them what you will.

Some of the naming of these things are beyond me .Such as. How do you go into a doctors surgery and tell him you suffer from sesquipedalophobia (fear of long words) i ask you?

The whole population must suffer from some phobias ....such as hthisiophobia(fear of tuberculosis)
:thantophobia(fear of death or dying) and a very strangely named,:virginitiphobia(fear of rape)

I think anybody suffering from these are in a spot of bother: vaccinophobia(fear of vaccination) and venustraphobia(fear of beautiful women).

I appreciate that some of these afflictions are really debilitating so i will try not to make too much fun of people ....lets say suffer from Scoleciphobia(fear of worms) i mean come on worms!!

I have that! Imagine trying to do the garden, it's an absolute nightmare.

And flying. And being a passenger in a car driven by a maniac!

I dont like rodents.....rats and mice make me shiver and cringe.
I wouldn't call it a phobia though

I used to be scared of the dark in my teens....to the extent of when I went out in the evening to visit my mates, I would run like a rabbit from lamp post to lamp post and then cower beneath one, building up my nerves for the next dash.
If one lamp post was out, I would not move until a car came up and lit up the area with its headlights....

I must admit that it still bugs me at times.....not as bad as when I was younger. I think that unless someone has been there and got the teeshirt, its seen by many as a copout. I recall many a night that I would switch the bedroom light off, by the door and then make a dash for the bed and pull the covers over my head...heart pounding and eras strining...for any spooky sound. An hour later I would "surface" and then fall asleep. Going to the bathroom at night was a no no, and I usually held it it at all costs.

Thanks for the hugs......and recipricated .......
damm!..where that light switch.

Do you know what, and i wasn't going to post this for fear of people thinking i was making it up just to post, you know to revive a sinking thread but here goes. I actually forgot that a Boxer dog tried to chew my ear off when i was about 7-8 years old, very vague now, i had to walk round with a string vest style balaclava on holding a big pad to my ear (thirteen stitches) how could i forget that balaclava

Anyway for at least six months after that i was terrified of dogs and they knew it. In those six months i was bitten, if memory serves, about 12 times, nothing serious just bit. That old saying don't show fear to a dog has stood me in good stead over the years, as I've dealt with and handled some serious dogs.
I still don't like Boxers though.

So called blood sports, now there's a thing.....but i won't go there.

I somehow missed this post when it was first put on here. I don't know how.

I remember it vividly. I could go into great detail about throwing the ball between us and kind of teasing the dog without actually realising we were teasing it. I can still see a video in my head of it.
When it actually jumped up to bite your face, which is what I think it was doing, and you turned and it got your ear, it looked to me like your ear was falling off. It's certainly stayed with me all these years and has made me have a dislike, or maybe distrust, of dogs ever since.

I think it boils down to how you deal with your fears and situations that bring your fears to the fore.
From my point of view I could quite easily kick a dog to death that was going to attack me, or even seem to be attacking me. This has got to be something to do with seeing your ear half bitten off. And it didn't chew, it was one instantanious bite and the deed was done.

I tend to get angry when a dog barks at me. I know it comes from that incident, but it also comes from other incidents with dogs. I've even had one woman calling her dog in that was barking at me. It was quite a big dog and it ended up with me squaring up to the dog, shouting and fists clenched, ready to punch it if it jumped for me.

I think maybe an analyst would try to cure me, but I doubt it he'd have much luck.

And you don't like boxer dogs? It's understandable that you don't, so that's why it's hard for me to understand why someone could be scared of things that aren't real, like the dark.

It jumped up at my face, i got my hands there in time and it had a couple of bites at them. As i fell and turned onto my side that's when it got my ear.

One of the lasting memories is funny: I remember looking past the dog and seeing Micheal Taylors father rushing out of the toilet with his strides round his ankles, or trying to pull them up due to all the screaming. I vaguely remember thinking, in a surreal kind of way, come on you bastard your dogs mauling me hear.....ooh it was great.

I couldn't put a finger on what made me get over my fear of dogs. Maybe it was just the passing of time, hey.
