| "Many drinkers develop a psychological condition known as denial, in which they are unable to acknowledge that alcohol use lies at the root of many of their problems. Denial was long thought to be a personality trait shared by all persons who suffer from alcohol-use disorders. Recent research suggests that denial may be a psychological response to negative feedback people receive about their drinking. Some studies indicate that when approached with objective information about their drinking and its consequences in an empathetic and nonconfrontational manner, many persons with significant drinking problems do not demonstrate denial."
I will claim the fifth amendment on this one, if i may....or the english version.
Can you please explain the off side rule to me please, because i haven't got a clue these days?. |

| A funny thing happened last night ,and i would like to hear your response, as it adds to what i'm trying to say......don't get me wrong i'm not trying to justify being a alchi, more trying to explain about limits.
On getting home from work, i learned that my father was visiting from Scotland, he's English, so me, my brother ,and a couple of friends went to see him in the pub. Ten'ish pints later, i find myself writing this post. The only regret is i'm rough as fluck and didn't turn in work, but... hey... it was worth it.
My point is, i didn't stand in the pub thinking that pint was two units, the fifth pint was ten units, the tenth pint was ....well slightly blurred. I went out knowing it could turn into quite a "sesh"
If you're in that environment you are going to accumulate pints, or whatever you drink but to worry about it while you are doing it, is quite worrying in its self . If you are in that enviroment every night, that also is very worrying indeed.
A man has got to know his limitations!.....or woman.
how was my grammar ?i'm trying. |

| Is the request for response open to everyone....( or is this between you and Syb?)
My daughter lives in Scotland, drinking is something they do very well,I have spent several hogmonays there.
My response is simple........
Why do feel the need to ask for a response?

Why do feel the need to ask for a response? | course you can have your say, mate, that's what these forums are all about, but i will come back to that.
I've worked/lived in Edinburgh, Greenock, Perth and Falkirk for 6, 6, 2, 2 months respectively. I've sampled the jocks drinking well. Only had two new years up there though. Great people, they are beat into second place for good people, by the Geordie's.....good times!
Don't try all your psycho crap with me please, you might upset me with the truth.Your response isn't as simple as you make out.Answering a question with a question I asked for a response because i thought that's what these things are created for. Whereas you seem to have the agenda. Ill take a stab at it, i think you would like to refer back to your onetime housemate who would "always mention it first", that this is in some way connected to my DENIAL. That's why i claimed the fifth amendment on denial because words can be twisted, if someone doesn't speak about "it" they're hiding something, if they do speak they're in someway feeding their DENIAL.....NO WIN BASIS!
I thought we were trying to have a discussion, if you want to knock it on the head just say so |

| I never worry about the damage I'm doing at the time, only the next day. To be worrying about it while absolutely wasted may be a step in the right direction.
Personally all I've done so far to better myself where drinking is concerned, is to stick to a strict diet of Vodka and diet coke. The hang overs are quite a lot less rough, and it's a lot less fattening. I'm sure my liver would have something to say about this new regime if it could talk. |

| Im not into psycho crap.......or at least I hadn't realised I was.........but you could be right........I like your sense of humour though.
Dont think I mentioned denial either....it was Syb.... I think....and you latched onto it.
Now I will say what I think about your drinking, and your thoughts on your drinking, if I can presume ?
I reckon you probably drink more than average, and know you do, and it concerns you enough to think that you might have a problem.I would think you are a social drinker, in that you work hard and to relax take a drink or three, and that is your main relaxation.I presume you are single and of an age that most of your mates have settled down with a little wifey, and you are at that stage where you think thats what you want.
You are not unattractive, reasonably intelligent, financially stable.....but feel you are missing out.........you think it could be your image that is stopping you "Settling down"
I dont think you are dependent on alcohol.........just on the socialising side of alcohol.
See....I can do psycho babble........but you started it....I just responded.

| Yeah he's quite good at all that psycho crap!
Anyway, I think people who are not responsible enough to have a drink should not be allowed to drink at all.
What about the idea that perhaps people should have a license to purchase/consume/carry large quantities of alcohol?
