What is Britishness ?

How would you define the qualities that make us British ?
Is there any one single thing that makes you feel British ?
Is Britishness about our past, our Royalty, or just a frame of mind ?
I am hard pressed to come up with any single defining trait or characteristic.

Any thoughts ?

I love our differences, but I also love the way we come together in a crisis. Then we are all the same. All for one

I love our sense of humour. Nothing like it anywhere else.

I love our great history, good and bad.

I love the fact that we have always been more than able to defend ourselves.

'Britishness' is the sense of care for the welfare and status of the British isles in the world.

Many next generation immigrants who prefer their culture of origin are not 'British' by this definition despite having been born and bred in Britain.

I saw a picture on the front page of a newspaper depicting children of several different cultures holding up placards with the word 'British'. What a load of propaganda that was.

I have the same problem Skinny.
My wife.....you know (have to be careful....Terry keeps tabs on all my posts) that black women I married.....says she is British.
I stand up tall....( tall as I can get) chest out and say (with a proud smirk)
"Im English".......I then add....."You will never be English" and I smile smugly.

Does that make us racist ?

Unfortunately, Britain has been losing its sense of self worth and its values and heritage since mass multiculturalism began after World War Two because of social policies that have undermined the British people in favour of ethnic minorities.

Some may say that this has caused Britain to lose its patriotism which has resulted in a new rapidly growing chav underclass of modern Britain. There's no sense of respect in such a class.
