A Tory MP has been forced to quit his frontbench role after making comments on race in the Army which party leader David Cameron called "unacceptable".

Shadow homeland security spokesman Patrick Mercer said he had met "a lot" of "idle and useless" ethnic minority soldiers who used racism as a "cover".

One question raised on Question Time was whether it was right to sack Patrick Mercer for his comments that were viewed as deeply offensive.

Any thoughts on this?

I would guess his comments are mostly true.

Bit of a knobhead to state them openly in this day and age and as an MP.

No he shouldn't have lost his job.

For his lack of judgment, whether his comments are right or wrong, he should have gone.
I met a lot of idle and useless white soldiers, if he'd said that would he have gone though?

The guy is a victim of PC.
He said nothing wrong, if he had carried on and said there are many whites who blame their failures on their upbringing it would have been even handed.

It like we all have to watch what truths we speak.....and that cant be good.
