    Default New Government spying plans

The government is making plans to be able to spy on exactly what websites you visit, who you call, and who you email all WITHOUT A WARRANT!

Once again this is done in the name of "fighting terrorism."

Another incredible infringement on our freedom, in order to protect out freedom. I am getting increasingly worried about the amount of power our Governments want to exact over us.

What happens when these measures prove to be inaffective as "the terrorists" adapt? What further infringements will become necessary? What happens when THOSE are no longer effective either?

I would be surprised Will if you find anyone on here who thinks this is a good idea. I don't see what the Tories and Lib Dem's are playing at here, especially as they opposed this sort of thing in opposition. I'm with David Davis here, and other libertarian Tories, who will doubtless oppose this.

I am all for giving the police and the intelligence services the means to investigate crime and terrorist plots. However, this is draconian and completely unnecessary. It is "socialist" in the worst sense of the word. How do we know the government, for instance, will not sell personal information to their friends in the insurance business? You might find that visiting websites giving information on cancer might lead to an increase in your life insurance policy, or a refusal by a bank to give you a mortgage.

It is probably also unproductive. Apparently, many criminals nowadays use Blackberry rather than the internet because the communications are completely anonymous and untraceable.

Going by Mucks , spelling he had to over do the red wine before agreeing with Northumbrian, but in most respects he is right to, and in most respects so do I. Just one thing though. Its not "socialist" in any particular way, its extemist in every way , and this government which prides its self on not being considered socialist in any way, will not be the first of its ilk to have ever used invasive methods, if not the same as this, then just as intrusive.

With only a partial element of Devil's Advocacy, I've not been convinced it's a bad idea yet. I've heard a lot of noise but few constructive arguments.

So you'd all be happy to go to court and somewhere in the proceedings the judge calls a halt to the case. No reason given. You are either guilty or the accused is innocent. All on the basis of a government officer telling the judge to do so in camera.
