Default School placement lottery

BBC NEWS | Education | School admissions rules finalised

There are plans in the future to prevent parents from choosing which school their child should go to. This is to make schools more mixed so that there are no disadvantaged schools with pupils from poorer backgrounds and to force schools with predominantly white middle class pupils to become more diverse.

I am against this idea and am pessimistic that schools will improve. Instead, the good schools will degenerate into failing schools just like the rest.

They tried to do the same where I live. There is a school between two quite different areas. The school has a really bad reputation for drug and drink use, terrible GCSE results, and all not improved by a new head quite often.
They keep trying to get kids with parents who care to go there but those parents just send their children elsewhere.

Most parents from my part of town don't even put it down on the form you get to mark down your choices, they get to send their kid to the other side of town to a reasonable school, or can be bothered to write a decent letter of appeal......I appealed
