| Overpopulation The Environment, Crime, Failing public services, poverty, unemployment, social decline, war, etc.. You could attribute it all to one thing.
Overpopulation!
Yet our government seems happy to increase the population of the UK indefinitely. The world population is set to increase by 2 BILLION by 2030.
Isn't it clear to governments both at home and abroad, that something needs to be done immediately? The worlds resources are already under massive strain, how much worse will it be in 20 years time?
Certainly here in the UK, the reason we are facing one problem after another, is we just can't sustain so many people. Initiatives need to be drawn up to persuade and should it become necessary force people to limit their family size.
Sounds draconian doesn't it? But think about it, how much suffering is there in the world because we don't have enough resources to go around. This is going to get WORSE not better, something needs to be done and none of the world leaders seem to be brave enough to even consider it.

| You have to remember that AIDS will wipe out a huge amount of Africans and Indians, that should take the numbers down a bit.
As for this country, well, we will be falling off the edges soon. The first shortage for sure, will be water. |

| I imagine they took AIDS into consideration when doing their calculations, along with many other diseases. Not really the issue.

| Without an influx of immigration, population in Britain would plummet, huzzah.
Globally...i think China will actually be under-populated in future, not sure about Africa/India though. |

| Britain's population needs to plummet. This would utterly destroy our economy which is entirely dependant on population growth. But continued and indefinite population growth will ultimately do more damage.

| Quote: HIV and AIDS in Africa
Sub-Saharan Africa is more heavily affected by HIV and AIDS than any other region of the world. An estimated 24.5 million people were living with HIV at the end of 2005 and approximately 2.7 million additional people were infected with HIV during that year.1 In just the past year, Africa's AIDS epidemic has claimed the lives of an estimated 2 million people in this region. More than twelve million children have been orphaned by AIDS.2
| Thats an awful lot of people, and expanding daily. HIV and AIDS in Africa Quote:
STATE OF THE EPIDEMIC
There are more than 5.1 million individuals infected with HIV in this country of over 1 billion people (UNAIDS 2003). The total number of AIDS cases in 2002 was estimated to be about 550,000. Seven states — Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland — already have generalized epidemics, as indicated by a 1 percent or higher prevalence rate among pregnant women in prenatal clinics. These seven states represent 22 percent of the population.

| Slightly off subject but close enough to be on topic.
With the improvements in medicine, more women now consider it a right to bear children, now grandmothers are having second families.I understand womens need to be fulfilled by having children, but it seems unethical or unreasonable to give life beyond the normal cycle of womens childbearing years.
China has for years had a strict one child per couple quota.........they were seen to be oppressive....now it seems a sensible approach to over population.
The right to bear countless children will be one of the Rights that in time will be taken away.

The first is that the average age of the population is increasing meaning that fewer and fewer working age people are looking after a population of increasing oldies.
The Chinese also prefer to have boys rather than girls. According to the Wall Street Journal of a cou[ple of weeks ago the ratio is 118 boys to every 100 girls.
That means that by 2020, there will 30 million more men than women in the 20-to-45-year age group.
I wonder where they'll head when on the lookout for a wife?
It's all a fine balancing act, who we let in the country and who we don't. It's far beyond most mortals to speculate on immigration policy so I'll say no more on the subject. |
