| chip & pin scam At last the government is waking up to the fact that these cards are useless for security purposes. I think they will now possibly introduce the id card + chip and pin...or, the chip & pin + bio metric scanning (ie finger print ), as compulsory. When these fail to work, they will possibly introduce chip and pin implants.
I know some american stores use fingerprint readers, but dont know if they are used anywhere here. |

| From what i've heard it's the machines that are flawed. They are supposed to be tamper proof .There has been a large petrol station company using one kind of machine... that you insert your card in...which the criminals can open and insert a device that skimms your card .
These machines are supposed to completely shut down when tampered with, so how this specific type has got through is beyond me. It must have cost a lot of money to develop.
---------------------------------------------
Regards the american fingertip system.
i've just read on "The Register" that three Co-Op shops in Oxford are trying this out with volunteers. It's free to use .
People such as myself who work in the building game ...with worn fingertips....and old people may not be able to use the system. Sorry this paragraph should be at the bottom.
----------------------------------------------
Skimming is one of the oldest forms of fraud where cards are concerned. How can they overlook this?
How many different types of machines are there, who makes them , and are they accountable? Ultimately is it down to our superb government to supervise it all?

| I wonder what implications this has for the clause which states that if someone takes money out of your account using your PIN, then you are liable? Would be ironic if the banks ended up having to pay out for it, since the only reason the did it in the first place was to stop having to acually pay out claimes. |

| you got as much chance for the banks paying us back, as the sun faling on our heads.....
Its does show that no matter what technology is introduced, someone somewhere is far ahead of them, scheming how to get around it.
Where this will all end is plain to see. I just wait for the cronie tony to announce that id cards will be linked to chip & pin, or biometrics.
Will this herald in the id crads sooner than we expect? |

| Supposedly , id cards is the next best thing to fish and chips, or so we are told. Therefore its logical that they will want to combine chip & pin with id cards, as an extra protection method. Again, this deviates from the original purpose of idcards, as laid down by the government.
When idcards are finally proved to be just as vunerable as the chip & pin cards, then they will have to move onto something else. |
