NOT about Bird Flu

The recent Bird flu scare involving Bernard Mathews turkies is frightening.

Forget about the Flu part of it.
I dont like turkey, but if you go into Sainsbury and buy some Bernard Mathews Turkey Ham or whatever, you might think you are buying a product that was reared and treated in the UK.
Now it turns out that turkey has arrived here from Hungary (?) three days after the outbreak.....it may have been in transit....BUT...."Bernard Mathews" to me "Says" english turkey.
Apparently he has turkey all over the place, and I suspect it washes between each country without much hindrence.

Thats what I find frightening

Never touch Bernard Mathews stuff anyway, his record of animal cruelty is more than enough to stop me.

I steer away from turkey (except at Christmas) and especially from large businesses like Mathews Branded goods.
My point being that there is a free movement of FOOD from places all around europe, like its just a commodity, and easy movement because it is within the same company, like inter department stock.
The concern being that any problems are transported directly across borders, but within the same company.

We ARE part of Europe.....the EU you mean ?
Romania is not ....or was not.....part of the union when Bernard set up his network......at least now they will be under some scrutiny, under the same umbrella of laws and inspections
