So to let someone die in front of you, after you've beaten them into the condition they're in, is not a crime?
I'll have to remember that one the next time someone annoys me!

Remember the police are not paramedics nor medical specialists........
They assumed as they most often do with all types of people resisting arrest, that he was playing up.........They had to book him in.they had to do a multitude of paperwork before they could get him into a cell.Perhaps a trained medical person should be stationed at all police units, to check each "customer", as they arrive.

If anyone is more guilty than the other, then its the system.

No, they're not paramedics, but they are there to not only uphold the law but to obey it as well. And I thought it was against the law to beat someone half to death, then leave them to die.
I had a feeling you wouldn't find fault in the officers involved, I wonder why???

I was just wondering how they'd book him in while he was unconscious on the floor. Do they not need to get details from him? How are they supposed to get these details if they've beaten him to death?
And don't try to tell me they never laid a finger on him. If they hadn't they would be willing to answer all the questions the IPCC had, not refusing to answer ALL their questions.
It used to be a form of defence for someone accused of a crime to refuse to answer questions, no comment was the reply. Nowadays this is seen as an admission of some degree of guilt. Why was it not taken into consideration with regard to these now conveniently retired officers?

I did watch the BBC documentary some time ago.
I will say again the Police involved were guilty of neglect, or due lack of care.
The man who was drunk had been a pain at the local hospital, was injured before the police came onto the scene. He might have been over enthusiastically restrained, his dignity may have been better preserved, more consideration should have been given at the hospital, before the Doctors released him into the jurisdiction of the police.
A lot of people make judgement calls in their day to day occupations, that later are found to be wrong, the police on this occasion failed a dieing man believing his symptoms were that of drunkeness alone.
They were in the wrong, as were the Doctors who failed to keep him under observation after injuring his head.
A tragic combination of circumstances caused the mans death, including his own drunkeness.
It is very easy after the event to apportion blame, in the cold light of day, with all the evidence collated.....not so easy in the heat of the moment to be 100% sure that your judgement call could be so drastically wrong....this time.

Putting it the way you have makes a lot of sense, though you failed to address the monkey noises, I tend to agree with your view on the matter.

The monkey noises were made for effect, like a schoolboyish prank, and by racially intolerant policemen, not by KKK members. We have all laughed at the fat lady waddling along, or the slap head with gawky glasses , not nice but we aint murderers, and I dont think they were either.
Inefficient, slack, bumptious, arrogant, unpleasant individuals, but not roll your sleeves up, lets get into him, murderers.
Its a crime that they have been retired, without some retribution, and if I was black I would be really pissed off....something should have been done, and seen to be done to stop such a thing happening again.
