This just about sums up the whole article, and argument for that matter:
He said that the force boasts of working closely with gay groups and added: 'Maybe they work a bit too closely when an evangelist can be victimised simply because he is giving out leaflets quoting verses from the same Bible police officers swear on in court.' There was strong support for Mr Green from other Christian groups yesterday.
There does seem some contradiction..... a christian peacefully handing out leaflets arrested by a policeman that is entrusted with preserving our rights .....

I think that it was wrong to discipline these firemen. Is it in their job description to be standing around events handing out leaflets as well as saving our lives?
This was not a tea drinking tea party, this was an event that was drink fuelled and highly charged with masculine hormones therefore sex! A firemen dressed up is a sexual fantasy to most of us ladies and I should imagine it is the same with gay men. I'm sure that if the firemen had been ordered to attend a hen party with thousands of women who had access to unlimited drink they would be wary as well. The firemen had every right to refuse being in that environment if it made them feel uncomfortable.
Some of them refused on the grounds of religious beliefs which I think was wrong. Afterall, nurses, doctors, etc have their religious beliefs and have to ignore them in doing thier job. But saying that, was this leaflet distribution really a part of their job description? I am 100% certain that firefighters would put aside any moral or religious intolerances to save a life.
Also, why do we take every other religious belief in such sacred hold, pondering over whether it would be PC to dismiss it, when we readily pour scorn on any christian based religion?
Happy your not allowed to say firemen any more got that ?
