i had assumed that these firemen were required to be in attendance at the march anyway (whether 'voluntarily' or as part of the job description). that they customarily attend events where they can target huge numbers of people with preventative information (thereby reducing the amount of emergency calls and time wasting). i understand they were disciplined for discriminating as to who they wish to hand out advice to.
do you know on what grounds they refused? did they play the religious card? or is it that they can handle backdrafts and bottle-throwing but not a bit of playful taunting and flirting.
i've be on the receiving end of some laddish sexual attention and comment from firemen-at-ease, gladly trading on their uniformed image. that's fine with me. i wonder if the disciriminating firemen would refuse to leaflet the pole dancing club.
