I came across this table from the government statistics web site... scary stuff.
The top 1% own 34% of the wealth
I damn well hope they worked 34 times harder than everyone else in the country.
I think the distribution of wealth is far better now than it's ever been.
I've been reading a book about life in London during the 1880's. The poorer families had to survive on a little over a pound a week. Compare that with a top surgeon in a London hospital earning £12,000 per year.
If we take the minimum the Government says you need to live on and multiply it using equivalents, that would mean a top surgeon would now earn £33,000 per week.
Since when has working harder given higher reward ?
What would you call hard work ?
Wages have risen and goods are cheaper.......I am with Sid on this.
Listen to this one.......I reckon most people these days are ALL living beyond their worth/value.
I dont know what the relative percentage of wages goes on accomodation and basics such as food compared to 100 years ago...... but..... we are far far better off today.......materially
