Lightbulb Pixar at Science Museum

Pixar have got an exhibition going on at the science museum, showing 20 years of pixar animation. The exhibit is a mixture of both cutting edge and old animation methods, looks well worth a look to me.

Pixar are masters at breathing life into onscreen characters, but as an old timer I rather regret that the CGI efforts they and others make seem to be overwhelming the art of drawn or "flat" animation.

I know from personal experience that some British animators are being driven further afield to find work. A couple of years back m'colleague and I were invited to Sweden to write and play the music for a series of cartoon shorts (sans dialogue, and, so we thought at first, very Swedish). We've worked in various parts of Europe before, but the invitation was still something of a mystery until we found that the writers and animators were British, and that they'd remembered us from projects back home. They'd been forced to go to Sweden to find production companies who would give them work.
