I would like to know where you got 17p from Bruv?
THE PRICE FOR A LOAF OF BREAD IS $80,000 ( EIGHTY THOUSAND ) NOT $8.00

It was peter hain who instigated the anti-apartheid push and now look at whats left over.

80.000 ZWN Zimbabwe Dollars = 0.163481 GBP United Kingdom Pounds
I rounded it up.......anyway the staple in Zimbabwe is Maizemeal....bread is and always has been a luxury.

Peter Hain did not.....he wasn't even about at the time....instigate the anti aparthied push.
I think he was up in arms about Mugabe's anti gay stance, and the civil liberties concerns within Zimbabwe.
He is a civil liberties activist............its the least he could do.

no Bruv, its 80000 not 80.000
try it again.....type in 80000 zim dollars and then convert to sterling...I got £163.385 ( one hundred and sixty three pounds )
Ofcourse peter hain had his finger in the pie. I wonder if they still adore him now?

"Peter Hain MP. I have not insulted him. I have no quarrel with President Mugabe personally. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s I demonstrated for an end to the Ian Smith white regime. I was delighted when President Mugabe won the elections in 1980. What I have done is to speak up when it has been necessary to do so. Zimbabwe is potentially one of the strongest African economies. Instead, it has been reduced to crisis by economic mismanagement and bad governance. Britain wants to assist Zimbabwe. But we cannot do so when there is a refusal to enter into dialogue. Instead of accepting the hand of friendship, the Zimbabwean government has sought to demonise Britain and provoke an unnecessary quarrel. It has been necessary to speak out against certain incidents and against the violence that has occurred in Zimbabwe. As an old friend of Zimbabwe, we cannot turn our backs on Zimbabwe and let these events happen without comment."

A grovelling apology bugsy.....decimal points were never my strength.

I still cant comprehend how he pushed up inflation in Zimbabwe though.

He said........
Quote:
Those of us who fought for the liberation of black Zimbabweans from racist minority white rule feel just as betrayed by Robert Mugabe's despotic regime as do his people. He has presided over the demolition of a once prosperous and beautiful African country into a state of desperation for its people who are starved and oppressed by his tyranny.
Even he gives credit where its due.

But it is more complicated than that.
Mugabe is still seen by many Zimbabweans as a great nationalist.
His struggle has given his people their own destiny, part of the failure of Zimbabwe's economy is the international bank and business structures that are still very much in western hands, even within Zimbabwe.
