Default Cold War II - Russia, Georgia, America, etc.

It seems America has reacted very strongly to Russia's reaction to Georgia's military blunder. America is making all sorts of pretty big threats, and Russia is just sticking two fingers up to everyone as usual.

The Russians are right about one thing though, George Dubya is a total hypocrite with his statement that Russia is being heavy handed. How about invading an entire country on nothing more than lies!

Anyway, for what it's worth, and despite the press pissing themselves at the possibility of having something to report badly and alarmistly on for the next few decades. I don't think this is the start of a new Cold War. That's not to say that we won't have one in the future, as I'm sure Russia will continue to snuggle up to China during it's rapid assent.

I'm thinking no Cold War today, but anyone think it may be inevitable?

Call me an eejit, but what strikes me is how closely Russia today resembles Germany in the late '30s. It suffered humiliation during the fall of communism, just as Germany suffered humiliation with the Treaty of Versailles and Weimar, it's flexing nationalist muscles with a declared intention of restoring pride, it's pretensions to democracy are looking increasingly shaky - and it's surrounded by plump-looking little countries, some of whom it believes are willing ([cough) to join it.

If my suspicions about its direction are correct, a Cold War would be poistively cosy.
